This summer, Fuse will host a multi-week workshop where kids 7-12 will learn all aspects of how to put on a musical, culminating in a performance of Disney’s “Frozen KIDS,” a 30-minute adaptation of the 2018 Broadway show and 2013 hit film. The production features all of the songs from the animated movie, with music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and EGOT-winner Robert Lopez. “Join Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Sven, and all of your favorite characters as they embark on an epic, ice-filled journey of self-discovery, camaraderie, and the meaning of true love. Adapted for young performers, this musical includes favorite Frozen songs such as “Love Is an Open Door,” “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?,” and “Let It Go,” as well as wonderful new songs from the Broadway production.”

As an essential aspect of our commitment to equity and excellence in theatre arts training, FUSE kicks off what we hope will be an annual tradition:

"The Multi-Gen Mentorship Initiative"

What does that mean, exactly?

We believe in the concept of "each one, teach one," the principle that skills should be passed down and shared. That's how the idea of our "Multi-Gen Mentorship Program" came about.

Kids' early experiences in theatre should be about having a ton of fun and also about learning the craft of theatre-making....

We feel strongly that every child deserves proper training, and that the skills they learn through this process will carry them through life with personal power, interpersonal competence, poise and the ability to meet challenges with grace, character and perseverance.

Under the supervision and guidance of FUSE Founder/Artistic Director Lara Morton and direction by Keona Gomes, the Frozen Kids Creative Team will be comprised of New Haven-area college students majoring in Theatre Arts, Music Education and Design & Technology/Media. They bring their youth, their diverse backgrounds, their passion and their acquired knowledge and skills to the table to create an electric, growth-oriented, youth-centered atmosphere for our cast.

Through the dedicated and conscientious support of our team, young performers will learn, thrive, grow, and see themselves reflected in the faces of our Creative Team as the next generation of artists and community leaders.

Won't you join us this summer? We so look forward to meeting you.

Keona Marie Gomes is a New Haven resident who started her study of Theatre Arts under the instruction of Ms. Morton while attending middle school in NHPS. A 2021 graduate of Co-operative Arts & Humanities High School, Keona is a rising sophomore at the University of Hartford, studying Pre-Law and Theatre Arts. She has distinguished herself as a playwright, spoken word poet, director and performer, having "opened" for Tony and Olivier Award winner Alan Cumming at Long Wharf Theatre's Grand Gala to a standing ovation at the age of 13! In high school, she wrote and directed a full-length play, which was produced on the Co-op stage. She apprenticed at NXTHVN and is now leading their initiative to expand theatre arts programming in their newly renovated black box theatre. She is a true community leader, and a phenomenal example of an empowered young woman who has taken in everything that the New Haven arts education system has had to offer. At FUSE, we see in her a shining, limitless future, and that is worth supporting and investing our resources in.

Please enjoy this gallery of Keona's evolution as a New Haven Public Schools-educated artist:

We chose her because we honestly could not think of a better role model for our young cast. Keona Gomes is 100% game to pass the torch to the talented children in the Greater New Haven community. Keona says, "Let It Go?.... Let's GO!"
