“Someone tell the story. Someone sing the song. Every now and then the country goes a little wrong. Every now and then a madman’s bound to come along. Doesn’t stop the story — story’s pretty strong. Doesn’t change the song…”

Assassins features music and lyrics by multiple Tony-winning composer Stephen Sondheim, a book by John Weidman, and is based on an idea by Charles Gilbert, Jr. Assassins was first produced Off-Broadway in 1990 by Playwrights Horizons, Inc. - New York City. Performances of Assassins will take place September 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29 at Music Back Then Performance Theatre in West Haven, CT.

According to Musical Theatre International: “Assassins combines Sondheim's signature blend of intelligently stunning lyrics and beautiful music with a panoramic story of our nation's culture of celebrity and the violent means some will use to obtain it. Assassins lays bare the lives of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate the President of the United States in a ‘bold, original, disturbing and alarmingly funny’ musical that explores the dark side of the American experience. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, Assassins bends the rules of time and space, taking us on a nightmarish roller coaster ride in which assassins and would-be assassins from different historical periods meet, interact and inspire each other to harrowing acts in the name of the American Dream.”
